What do you do with recurring merchants in Monarch when you expect the charges to stop?

I'm cleaning up my recurring section and noticed a problem with a few services I'm leaving. I've already connected the companies, but Monarch still has future payments listed based on the old charge history. I don't want to remove the merchants because I still want those past payments included in my spending history.

For now I'm leaving them there and checking whether another charge appears, but that gets messy when there are several at once.

Is there a better way to mark these in Monarch without removing the old transactions?

Helping my elderly parents cancel 10+ unused subscriptions without passwords or account access. What's the best way?

I'm helping my parents, both in their mid 70s, go through their finances, and we found that more than 10 recurring charges for things they haven't used in months or even years. There are old magazine subscription, a couple of fitness memberships, software subscriptions, and streaming services they barely remember signing up for. Altogether, it's costing them almost $130 a month.

The biggest is cancelling them. They don't remember most of their passwords, some account used old email addresses, and a few companies require an in person visit or a long call with a retention team. When I call on their behalf, some support teams won't talk to me because I'm not the account holder.

I'm trying to get everything cancelled without spending hours chasing each company. I have considered contacting the bank about recurring charges, but I'm also worried about simply stopping payments before the subscriptions are properly cancelled.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Is there a good way to cancel subscriptions when you don't have the login details or access to the old email account?

Would really appreciate any advice or experiences.
