Kubuntu 25.10 How do I enable hardware acceleration on NVIDIA?

I have a laptop with NVIDIA RTX 5060 (it doesn't have an iGPU), and I installed Kubuntu 25.10. My question is how can I enable hardware accelerated video decoding and encoding in KDE Plasma Wayland session? Can someone help me? Thanks in advance!

Weird Artifacts on the Screen?

I've been dealing with this for a while now. I've used COSMIC on Pop!_OS, Fedora, and now CachyOS, and all three had this exact same issue. I've seen people say a kernel update fixes it, but it's still happening for me. Is there an actual fix for this?

Is it safe to run a system update right now with the AUR malware situation?

Hey everyone,

With all the AUR malware stuff going on I'm a bit scared to update my system by running sudo pacman -Syu. I only have one AUR package installed which is Visual Studio Code is it safe to update or should I wait for a few days to update my system? Thanks in advance.

VRAM Management on Other Desktop Environments?

Hello everyone,

Are there any advantages to using VRAM management on desktop environments other than KDE Plasma? I'm currently using Cosmic DE, and I've heard that VRAM management also works with Gamescope. However, I don't use Gamescope at all. Can someone explain whether there are any benefits to installing it on other desktop environments? Thanks in advance.

Made a Figma prototype for tray icon overflow in COSMIC

I designed a simple Figma prototype for this issue: https://github.com/pop-os/cosmic-epoch/issues/2268

Having too many tray icons makes the desktop look cluttered, so the ability to hide some of them and pin the essential ones preventing them from being hidden would be a nice addition. Here's a link to my prototype showing how that feature could be implemented. (I'm new to Figma, so it doesn't look that great.) https://www.figma.com/proto/mPflRgExWVxaFEqk3tOIck/Cosmic-Tray-Icon1?node-id=1-2&t=QSQKgSs3RvK8ZHeI-1&scaling=contain&content-scaling=fixed&page-id=0%3A1&starting-point-node-id=1%3A13

My experience with Cosmic Desktop

I've been using Cosmic Desktop for a few months now and overall I've had a great time. I came from KDE Plasma and GNOME, GNOME gave me a pretty bad experience especially with fractional scaling and I didn't like the look of KDE Plasma, so I decided to switch to Cosmic. I had to go with Fedora's Cosmic spin instead of PopOs because my laptop's speakers weren't working on Pop due to the older Ubuntu base (which I think is because of older SOF Firmware in Ubuntu's repos). After setting everything up I started testing games and surprisingly I'm getting a bit more FPS and better 1% lows compared to other desktop environments I used. The games I play aren't that demanding but on mid-range hardware it really does matter. The only caveat is that I had to force games to run on Wayland because there's some fullscreen issue with XWayland apps. I also liked tiling feature quite a lot. I keep Firefox on workspace 1 and my messaging apps tiled on workspace 2, switching with Super + 2 or with the touchpad was easy to get used to.I also liked the simple customization options and didn't feel overwhelmed like I did on KDE Plasma due to tons of options in the settings app (I know some people like having a lot of options but I don't. It's just a personal preference). But there are some issues I'm still dealing with under heavy load my PC randomly restarts and it never did that on other DEs, I have no idea how to troubleshoot it. The Bluetooth applet sometimes shows as off even when it's on and I have to resize the panel to refresh it, which I think is due to lack of hot reloading support but I'm not sure . Some apps don't work in the background either, had to find an alternative to Packet app for wirelessly transferring files to my phone. And copy-paste randomly doesn't register so I have to copy again for apps to pick it up. Despite all that I'm still using Cosmic and I like it quite a lot. I know most of these issues will get fixed eventually and I'm excited to see where it goes.

Graphical Artifacts on Fedora Cosmic Spin?

Hey everyone, I've been experiencing graphical artifacts on the COSMIC Panel and COSMIC Dock, specifically on the applets. It happens when I move my cursor quickly over them, and sometimes occurs randomly even without fast movement. It does not happen in any other COSMIC apps or games.

Has anyone seen this before or have any idea what might be causing it? Any help is appreciated!

Flatpak apps can't run in the background on COSMIC?

https://preview.redd.it/nlockkttsk0h1.png?width=360&format=png&auto=webp&s=fd1e4a33f2db315a4d07ae3bec6f112c1e69d8f3

I use Packet to wirelessly transfer files to my phone, but clicking "Run in Background" throws an error even after granting the permission. From what I can tell, this is because xdg-desktop-portal-cosmic doesn't have background portal support yet. Does anyone know if this feature will be implemented or not? Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone,

I'm currently using the Fedora 43 Cosmic spin. I haven't seen an update notification yet, and I've tried running sudo dnf upgrade --refresh in the terminal, but to no avail. Do I have to wait for the upgrade to be distributed to the spins or is there another command I need to run to get the upgrade? Thanks in advance.
