Read beyond the fear mongering headline and first few paragraphs, and this article is a really good (long) read... First ever interview from Ray Pederson, one of the scientists who discovered the GIP hormone.

The headline annoyed me so I clicked on it, but once you get through the usual media clickbait/ragebait, it's actually a really interesting interview with a scientist who spent 4 decades researching the hormones the fuel the "GLP-1" industry today.

It ties origins in Canada, assists from Soviet Union researchers, and ultimately leads to the Danish and American pharmaceutical companies who brought them to market.

Stick with it through the first few paragraphs...

‘I’m sick of her talking about it’: 11 readers share how GLP-1s have affected their relationships | Well actually

Interesting article on how being on the meds has impacted other people’s relationships friendships, for better if for worse. I definitely recognise some of the behaviours described here both from real life and posts in this sub…

Well here's a fun one... Anyone had their conveyancer closed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority?

As per title, I bought my property in England, in December of last year, my conveyancer who was still faffing about with the Land Registry did a big merger and then got hit with a winding up petition by one of their creditors so was closed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority about a month ago.

I only found this out today after I got a letter from the Land Registry themselves to let me know I needed to point them as a new solicitor to answer some outstanding issues.

I've got the details of the intervening agents, and I've dropped them an email to get more info and my file, but I'm curious if anyone else has gone through this so late in the day after a purchase and any tips advice you can offer?

WHY IS NOTHING EVER BLOODY EASY?

Thanks in advance.

Am I wasting my time hunting for a unicorn? Indoor heat pump, that can do air-to-water AND air-to-air...

I thought something like this must exist, but I feel like I'm searching for Bigfoot at this point.

I have a large apartment which is all electric, coming up on 25 years old it needs a new water heater and given the electric heating is pricey, seems logical to try and upgrade this too.

What I want to find is an indoor unit (can't have an outside one) which can do multiple things. The ideal would be:

  • Single unit roughly the size of a fridge freezer.
  • Ideally combined hot water tank and heat pump
  • Can do domestic hot water heating and also underfloor heating
  • Can also do air cooling/air conditioning (either ducted or to mini split units)
  • Air supply from 150mm-200mm ducts for supply and return from outside.
  • Bonus points if it can also use waste warm air from bathrooms and kitchen and also replace existing central MEV system.

I seem to keep finding units that can do some of these things but not all of them.

I thought I'd stumbled across one the other day with the units Trianco have, but they can't do the air cooling part. I've seen the NIBE waste air heat pumps which look the part and could replace the existing MEV mechanical ventilation system, but they again don't solve the problem of also doing cooling.

In my head this shouldn't be an impossible device.

Any heat pump is going to have a cool side so it's not beyond the real of possibility to use that for cooling rather than ejecting it to the outdoors. But after far too long spent Googling, asking multiple different AI chat bots, scouring press releases and YouTube videos to trade shows, and contacting various suppliers, I'm still coming up short.

So, Reddit, any leads? Or am I wasting my time hunting unicorns?

Edit to say thanks to the legends on this sub looks like there are two viable options:

Plus a few others that come close. Thanks all!

MHRA approves oral Wegovy for use in the UK 💊

I'm sure many of you have been getting emails from pharmacies over the past few weeks about oral GLP-1s, and this will be the reason why. The MHRA earlier today approved oral Wegovy for sale in the UK. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/first-glp-1-tablet-for-weight-loss-approved-in-the-uk

Still likely a while to go before it hits shelves and we see pricing, but good to see the new GLP-1 options hitting the market.

Full phase 3 trial TRANSCEND-T2D-1 results published in The Lancet

Unfortunately the whole study its paywalled, but the abstract is there and there's a Guardian article summarising the findings.

The trial was 40 weeks, interestingly the loss percentages on this study...

>The mean percentage change from baseline in bodyweight was –11·5% with Retatrutide 4mg, –13·9% with 9mg, and –15·3% with 12 mg

...compare favourably with the Surmount-2 study for Mounjaro.

>Mean change in bodyweight at week 72 with tirzepatide 10 mg and 15 mg was –12·8% (SE 0·6) and –14·7% (0·5), respectively,

It's notable that the Mounjaro trial was over 72 weeks, vs, the 40 week Retatrutude trial.

This suggests that the addition of the 3rd agonist for glycagon significantly accelerates the effectiveness of the medication, as seen in prior studies. It looks like Mounjaro is about to lose it's 'King Kong of weight loss medication' moniker to a new challenger.
