[UPD] MSc Applied Math - Mathematical Finance Track
Is anyone in this sub taking this track? I'm hoping for some guidance. I really wanna apply after my college graduation.
What's it like? Does the department require super strong undergrad academic performance? Is this a popular program? For those taking the thesis track, how is it? What do you dislike about the program and what about it inspires you? How are the fees relative to other big4 unis masters in math? How's the workload? How do you balance having a job and the workload? Is it worth it? Do you find it rigorous? How has this program improved your life overall? What kind of skills would you need to have before taking this program? What math topics would you recommend reviewing before entering this program (besides algebra, calculus, and optimization)? How's university life like? Are the professors helpful? Have you ever compared course works with other unis with a similar focus? If so, what were the key differences?
The institute of mathematics website showed that some of the core subjects needed pre-requisites and I'm worried the math/stat subjects from my undergrad (applied economics major industrial economics minor investment management and minor in data science) won't be counted. I'd say my program has a pretty good grasp of quantitative methods and the mechanical preparations to lead up to the complex stuff. I'm highly interested in (financial) econometrics which made me gear towards this MSc in particular.
I'm also looking into the Optimization and Approximation track holding the same inquiries as above. Any guidance would be really really appreciated! ☺️ Thank you 🤍🤍
