What are good resources to learn about Yoruba faith. I plan on learning Yoruba eventually, but I live in Washington state so there’s not lots of people I can talk to about it. From what I’ve learned about the Yoruba faith, I think it is beautiful & I want to learn more so I can try and practice it, and I know the best way to learn is through word of mouth
Given that this issue is always relevant, I’m rewatching Volunteers and I love the nuance it gives to an already touchy subject. The addressing of what abortions meant for people and the complexities of it for black people i, as a black woman felt that and the danger women deal with. I feel this show is incredibly sensitive. It was sad what happened to Gerard and Julia. They both rebelled against social norms and were very brave.
Since Brandi blackmailed Ariel and got forged prescriptions (due to trauma and abuse of course) does she get charged? It’s left very ambiguous. I’d like to hope that Brandi becomes Neil’s legal guardian or at the very least, her abusive evil parents get charged. Hopefully they work out a deal for her, so she can put her parents away. But, she still did extortion and crimes. I always hoped if they were real they’d be okay and get some therapy and hopefully Tiffany gets treatment for her alcoholism due to trauma as well.
I think the sleepover is one of the most disturbing episodes ever, and forcing Neil to hold Brandi underwater? He’s done that before and Brandi is cruel and a victim too. But she has compassion and she truly loves her brother and will take care of him. She isn’t totally heartless. I never understood why she didn’t let Rita save them, pride and humiliation I imagine. Lily was right, Brandi is a survivor, brutal abusive dangerous reality, so she used Ariel. Though Brandi is a bully, I feel for her and wanted to hug her after she told Lilly about the simulated drowning
I never believed that Troy did the bare minimum by yelling at Dallas or posting information for his victims was the bare minimum. Troy was awful & problematic & a bully. & it did bother me when Dallas was joking about one of the women he hurt passing out, and Troy laughed and at the same time; I felt for Troy and you could tell in Common Goal, Troy was starting to get sick of Dallas. And when Troy says to Eric “I’m starting to figure that out” concerning Eric saying you can choose who you have around you. And then Troy, right away believed the women when they accused him. He didn’t engage in bro code, he called him out and I was touched. Given Harris’s casting as a black person many people on threads have been saying that what Troy did was the bare minimum. It wasn’t everything and he still has more work to do of course, & I would love to see him do more to make amends, but that doesn’t mean what he did was nothing or the bare minimum. & to me, all the book showed was how toxic homophobia is and dangerous it is. Troy is growing but yes, I agree he’s a role model
I’m sure these episodes don’t have lots in common, but to me they have in common the fact that an innocent person is punished for the victim’s murder and nobody believes them. And it got me thinking about how sometimes, maybe often, people don’t want to hear the truth, but what they want to hear. Will Jeffries kept bugging Andre to “tell the truth” when he was saying the truth, but he didn’t believe him. So many people including cops kept bugging Cullen Masters to admit he didn’t do, and he kept telling the truth but they didn’t want to hear it. Andre? I get it, he had blood on his boots, but all I kept thinking was, if he found her body, of course there would be. Was there any evidence of his semen and all that? Anyway, death penalty final appeal is a painful episode to watch
I rewatched love Simon, I hated Simon’s friends. I don’t want friends like that. They had no compassion for the fact that he was blackmailed and that being gay is dangerous being outed has dangerous consequences. He could’ve been beat up or worse. And then, when Simon was bullied, a teacher stood up for him, but his friends just sat there and didn’t do anything. I wouldn’t be friends with them. I wouldn’t feel safe with friends like that. He was wrong to lie to his friends, but he didn’t have much of a choice, it’s either be outed or humiliated, or lie. He was trying to survive and his friends should’ve had empathy. I’d like to hope that if I were his friend I’d be worried about him, because he’s being blackmailed, and they weren’t at all. The only thing I’d be upset about is if he didn’t come to me about that, but they’ve shown they’re not supportive in his most vulnerable moment. Friends are supposed to support you, and if I found out my friend got blackmailed and outed, I’d do what I could to protect them. Not just throw them to the wolves. They should’ve been apologizing to him for not supporting him or having his back.
In August I start graduate school for library science at Indiana university. It is an online program. To pay for it, I have to get a job and I’d like advice on how to navigate graduate school and working. I know graduate school is harder than undergrad. Any advice?
I am about to start graduate school at Indiana university to get my MLIS. I want to be an academic librarian and I am wondering if I need to get a PhD in order to better my chances of getting a job at a university. I know I will have to move to be an academic librarian but should I be saving money for a PhD program. I can’t afford to do a double degree in master’s, but Indiana university has an academic librarian specialty. I will be talking to advisors on this, but I did want to get advice on here
