Since I began law school and moved into a new apartment in August of 25’ I have had episodes where I wake up around 1-3am experiencing a combination of symptoms which may or may not all manifest at the same time, including lightheadedness, nausea, hot flashes, and increased heart rate. During these episodes the symptoms can be managed and eventually quelled by eating food, drinking water, and sometimes simply allowing time to pass and my body to regulate. The experience could sometimes be characterized as a panic attack, although not always.

I began Lexapro through a psych in November, which saw a reduction in the frequency of these experiences, but they continue to occur. Strangely, this does not happen to me when my girlfriend is staying over and sleeping by my side. This is the only consistent scenario in which I never experience one of these episodes.

I have suspected that this is caused by a unique combination of circumstances: General anxiety disorder/ panic disorder as I have been diagnosed with both, an inconsistent diet which sometimes leaves calories on the table, and environmental stressors/ which seem to be entirely countered by the presence of my girlfriend which is great!

Has anyone had similar experiences? I would love to hear about them or about any insight people may have.
