How has growing up not understanding your disability affect you as a whole?

(This is my first Reddit post, please forgive me if this sounds off.)

This question had been pondered my mind for a while. I have been reflecting on how my own lack of understanding about autism has affected me in different ways such as burn out, lack of understanding who I am, and not being able to communicate. The past few months I have been researching about how has media shape how autism is viewed and how stereotypes have pushed many of us back to not realize about your own autism or fully understand what it means due to lack of accessible knowledge.

What I want to know is how have you guys gone through life without understanding the full extent of your autism, and how has it affected you as a whole?
