it started doing this for no reason, every single mp4 file only shows the vlc media player icon, and not the thumbnail (every other video file like .mov, .mkv shows thumbnail correctly)

i already tried to:

change the deafult application to open mp4 file, but then it will show the logo for that app, still no thumbnail

check if "only show icons, never thumbnails" was on/off, it was off, turning it on and off it did nothing either

clear the thumbnail cache, nothing happened

windows update, nothing happened
