it was easier
to say it
she had enough
of yesterdays
enough of
the shadows
but then
when the night fell
that was all
she cared to hold close
yesterdays and the memory
of his hello
the echo of his kisses
still played
along her neck
and the fires
still lingered
even as the dawn
faded away
no
she had enough
of her yesterdays
now
as she visits
his grave site
still adorned
with a tri-folded flag
stained
by the tears
that she wept
it was easier

that she wept
in the beginning
it was so dark
that the only light
was the sparkle
in his eyes
but then he said
let there be light
and sat for a few decades
deciding
what light should be
his first thought
was lighting
to race across the ether
but he thought
he may stumble and fall
and that would leave
such a mess
so he created the sun
and since he was cold
he turned it into
an oversized heater
to keep him warm
still
he had not created
the planets yet
and when he finally did
they were lifeless
empty
cold
and he called them
marbles
because he was bored
and shooting marbles
gave him something
to do
but as time went on
he fashioned another
one with waters
to wash his hands
at the end of the day
and maybe have drink
after he invented thrist
but still he grew lazy
so he created man
to handle
his mundane chores
but they asked
too many questions
and he really had not yet
created writing
or an instruction guide
for them to follow
so he created woman
to keep them busy
with sex instead
like explaining that
wasn't hard enough
when even he
wasn't sure
what to do
but then he was always
misunderstood
must have been
his accent
or something
like the time
he was singing
"listen to the falling rain
listen to it fall..."
and Noah,
being such a busy body,
thought he meant a flood
so he built a boat
or was it an ark?
any way
god felt
they would think
he was a liar
if he didn't invent rain
so he turned on
the faucet
and went on
to dig a outhouse
oh sorry
I stand corrected
it was
the grand canyon
and forgot to turn off
the faucet
until he heard the unicorns
had drowned
and by then Noah
had perfected the backstroke
while being chased by
piranha
oh and before I forget
his name wasn't allah or budda
or any such thing
it was Maurice
he just never cared to tell
anyone
oh why isn't this in the bible
you ask?
well the first writers
thought it was all too stupid
and the ghost writer
never bothered to ask anyone
if the whole thing was true
or maybe not
and Maurice wasn't saying
all that much
he was still trying to explain
to Moses
that the map he offered him
never said repeat
when he started
his long march
in worn out shoes
in the beginning
it was so dark

his long march

its there
the rainbow’s end
not the one
we were taught
to seek out
but the one
that whispers
to the heart
you’re here
at the end
of all
your yesterdays
and the place
where the dawn
is the final lover
you will know
where the pot of gold
is replaced
by the truth of the heart
and the promised
long held in place
by your soul
you’re at the end
of the beginning
it’s time to go home
she smiled
and for a moment
all I thought of
was knowing her
not just her smile
or her touch
but that glimmer
in her eye
that warmth my spirit
that softness
in her tone
that spoke of seduction
but we were strangers
in a crowded room
where the play
just loud enough
to hide a hello
but I dared myself
to walk over
to reveal my presence
and hold hoped
she was just as bold
and upon my approach
I asked her to dance
and then our eyes met
as we walked out
to the dance floor
and tomorrow
became a runaway dream
while yesterday
the rudest of voyeurs
we ignored it all
no words were spoken
but the night
became an eternity
of discovery
of hope
and the understanding
sometimes love
is born in the silence
just before hello
she smiled
and for a moment
all I thought of
