I’m 25M from the UK and I work in a small team.

One of the girls at work, I’ll call her Megan, asked me if I could cover her Saturday shift because she had a “family emergency”. I didn’t really want to cos I already had plans, but she looked stressed and said she had no one else to ask. So I cancelled my plans and said yeah.

Anyway Saturday night I’m on Instagram and her story comes up. She’s at bottomless brunch in Manchester with her mates. Drinks, videos, the whole thing. Clearly not a family emergency.

I didn’t say anything at the time cos I thought what’s the point. But then the next week she asked me again to cover another shift and said she had “personal stuff” going on.

I just said no, and told her I’m not covering again after she lied last time. She got really defensive and said I had no right to be checking her Instagram or questioning her private life.

I said I wasn’t checking anything, she literally posted it on her story and it came up while I was scrolling. Also I wouldn’t have cared if she just said she wanted the day off, but don’t make me cancel my plans by saying it’s a family emergency.

Now she’s told a few people at work I made her feel uncomfortable and that I’m watching what she does outside of work. A couple people said I should’ve just said no and not brought up the Instagram story cos it makes me look weird.

I don’t think I’m in the wrong but now work feels awkward.

AITAH for refusing to cover her shift again and saying why?
