Need advice from instructors/studio owners
official Lagree Fitness cert vs “Lagree-inspired”/xformer studio training?
I have been wanting to become a teacher for some time now in San Diego area I’m stuck on which route makes the most sense (I am aware of the legalities involved and the differences between the certifications, but I want to choose whats best long term for me based on the studios and potential jobs available in my location.)
Option 1: Wait for the official Lagree Fitness certification. This is the route I originally wanted because I respect the brand, and I’m not trying to disrespect Lagree in any way by even asking this. The downside is the next training I can realistically attend isn’t for a few months, and the training studio itself doesn’t have locations near me. That said, there are 3 official Lagree Fitness studios near me that I already go to and love. They do hire from time to time, so long term this still could work.
Option 2: Do training sooner through an xformer / Lagree-inspired studio near me. The upside is I could get certified much sooner, start training and coaching earlier. The studio offering the training is also opening a new location near me and will be hiring right around the time I officially finish. On top of that, there is one other lagree inspired studio that would be the closest to me in this network that may be hiring soon, so it feels like a faster path to actual employment and experience.
My goal is to build something long term in this space, not just get any cert as fast as possible. But I also don’t want to sit around for months when there may be opportunities right now. For instructors who’ve been in this industry, what would you do in this situation given the location availability I am in? Is it smarter to start teaching sooner with a Lagree-style studio and build experience that way, or hold out for the Lagree Fitness certification?
