im currently using hyprland on wayland and i really like the workflow (dynamic tiling, fast config, keyboard driven setup, clean behavior overall)

the problem is i need to stay on x11 for compatibility reasons

so im looking for a window manager on x11 that comes closest to the hyprland experience

so

What i care bout:

  • dynamic tiling (not manual tiling only)
  • keyboard driven workflow
  • fast configuration (preferably text based, not gui heavy)
  • minimal latency / lightweight feel

What I don’t care much about:

  • visual effects like blur animations (nice but not required)

So far ive seen mentions of:

  • i3
  • bspwm
  • awesomeWM

but im not sure which one actually feels closest to hyprland in practice, especially in terms of workflow and config flexibility

any recommendations would help

I’ve been using i3wm for a while and I’m trying to improve my setup without making it overly complex. Most guides repeat the same stuff (picom, polybar, wallpapers, etc.), so I’m curious: What are some less obvious ricing tips or tricks that actually improved your setup? Could be anything fonts, gaps, window rules, scripts, small quality-of-life tweaks, etc.

Not talking about big things like DEs or WMs. I mean tiny utilities or tricks (e.g. fzf, ripgrep, tmux scripts, clipboard tools, etc. that unexpectedly became essential

How are you using scratchpads in Hyprland? Do you find them useful in a daily workflow, or are they more of a niche feature for you?
