Why does a delivered + proof + happy customer still sometimes turn into a chargeback?

This is one of those things that’s been messing with my head lately.

You ship an order, tracking shows delivered, no support tickets, nothing. then weeks later you wake up to a chargeback saying the customer didn’t authorize or never received it.

Meanwhile other times you’ll have actual issues where you refund someone quickly, they confirm it, and somehow it still ends up as a dispute anyway.

It just feels like there’s this weird gap between what actually happens in the business and what the payment system decides happened.

I get that fraud exists, and I get that customers can be protected, but the consistency is what throws me off. sometimes it feels like evidence matters, sometimes it doesn’t, and there’s no real feedback loop to learn from.

I’m starting to wonder if other people just accept this as normal and build around it.
