Ever since my baby was born she has randomly choked during her feeds. At first she was taking Dr. Brown’s anti colic bottles with a size 1 nipple, we kept the same bottle but switched her nipple to a preemie thinking it was the reason she was choking. The random choking still happened at least once a day after switching. We have pace fed her, have her in almost a sitting position while feeding, and make sure she isn’t laying down when finished eating. We have expressed our concerns to her pediatrician, she was diagnosed with silent reflux and cow’s milk allergy. I had a chiropractor look at her mouth the other day and she said my baby has a cheek, tongue, & lip tie, could this be contributing to her choking? She gave me the number of an SLP, who I have reached out to and hoping to get an appointment with soon. This past week has been the worst with her choking spells, it is almost once EVERY feed, some minor and some more scary! This last one, she pulled away from the bottle and turned red, didn’t make a noise… but wasn’t breathing. I quickly turned her to her stomach on my leg and supported her head while patting her back harder than normal to try to help her clear the liquid. After about 30 seconds she was crying wanting her bottle again. She finished with no issue and has acted normal since, even eating her next bottle a couple hours later, with no issue. I’m a FTM and I panic over everything, but this last spell about done me in. I feel guilty for not being able to help her as I truly don’t know what is causing it. At this point, I dread feeding and I feel like I literally can’t breathe while she is eating. We have another appointment tomorrow to hopefully get answers. I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue and if so, was there anything that helped your little one?
