There’s a chance you don’t know the term, but I’m sure you see a range of phenomena that would count as prole-drift / proletarian drift. I’ve heard it described as the enshittification of society by other means, or the cultural consequence of the middle class evaporation in the developed world (ie it’s NOT just a matter of people have less money)
Working class things are aestheticised, appropriated by young middle class counterparts who can’t reasonably expect to lead middle class lifestyles anyway. Furthermore, traditional aspirations - bourgeois or not- like owning a home, getting married, besides being out of reach (whatever your political aetiology, you’ll agree they’re out of reach) are now slandered as outdated and “not worth pursuing anyway”.
Example commonly used is tattoos, which used to be rare and considered edgy or trashy, but are now a common sight, and are beyond reproach from a civic point of view.
