How is Furano?

Heading to hoikkaido last 2 weeks of january 2027. I know its an el Nino year, but hoping there is still snow, this is my 3rd time. I have done niseko and rutusu,

My plan is first week niseko/rutusu again, then my dad is flying out to meet me and I was thinking we do a week in furano, if furano any good? Hows the snow typically first week of Feb?

SAR Techs

What kind of schedule does SAR Tech work? Is that like your only job and you are just on call 24/7 or do you follow a shift pattern of sorts?

Is the idea just to train when there are no callouts and thats what you do on a day to day? Or do you do another discipline and are just part of the sar tech team.

I am a firefighter and looking at transitioning my career to this by joining the military.

David sinclair

Have the rogues talked about David Sinclair at all? I'd like to hear a skeptical take on all this life maxing/optimization "science".

Or have they done a deep dive on the possible increase in qualified PhDs going down the grifter rabit hole? Huberman, Peter Attia etc?

Advice: First Triathlon, run blowup

I did my first Triathlon in muskoka yesterday, and I am just looking for some advice on how I can fix some of the issues that came up, specifically on the run I completely blew up.

Before the race I was mostly concerned about the swim, as my training times had been around 55 minutes. For some reason, I felt very good and finished in 41min, so that was good, I felt great coming out of the water.

The bike was also good, I had a personal best of just over 3 hr, but near the end I started feeling uncomfortable in my stomach. I took 1 gel before the ride and 6 on the bike. I also had 800ml water (sips after every gel ~25 min) and 800ml biosteel total, sips every 15 mins.

Now the run, immediately I felt like I was going to puke. I also felt so thirsty even though I dont think I could take anything else down. The other thing was I could not get cool, I felt like I had a fever and kept dumping water on my head at the aid stations. I had to walk alot and ended with a 730 pace on the run. I basically had to grind out the entire course and it was not enjoyable at all.

I ran a half marathon about a month ago and was able to sub 2 hr, I was expecting maybe a 2:20 for the run, but I just completely blew up. This was my first race and I just want to get better, but I dont know how to train to avoid the GI issues that I had. My legs felt strong, that wasnt the issue, it was mostly that I was just battling my stomach the entire leg.

I'm feeling moderately discouraged so any advice for how to adjust my training? I felt my nutrition was fine, but maybe I was way off base.

Abysmal swim

Currently training for my first triathlon, a 70.3 in 6 weeks. Never done any endurance sports before but was generally fit. Im fine on the bike and run, expecting 320/210 respectively, but my swim is just so ass.

In the pool I can make the distance comfortable but my pace is about 2:35-2:40. I thought that was fine, but most people i see are discussing improving paces from 1:50-2:10. I have no idea how people are swimming 1:10...

If I try to swim at a 2:15 im gassed after like 200m. Any thoughts on why my swim is so shit compared to other newbies? Im not new to swimming just apparently slow

Trip advice for early September

I am trying to plan a trip from Canada for me and my wife's anniversary end of august into September for 10 days.

She enjoys good towns and good food, and likely wants to chill. I am a bit more adventurous and was looking to maybe get kiteboarding in, or scuba diving or something.

Initial plan was Estepona, Spain as a base with a car and then day trips to granada, tarifa, Ronda etc. However it is fairly expensive little trip so I am looking for some feedback on that town for 6 nights.

Alternatively, I think the dramatic coastlines of tenerife look incredible, but I worry there is not the culture/food scene my wife would enjoy.

I am open to other suggestions though (I would even prefer not to go to Europe in the middle of the summer but that seems to make the most sense from canada at this time)
