Application

I started my application. The one question saying "I am a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a foreign applicant who is fully trained as a member of another countries military"

what the hell?

Is it asking 3 different questions? Or asking if I as a Canadian citizen have been trained already?

Former reservist - Looking to get more shirts

Weird Q I know.

Retired reservist, and have been wearing some of the clothes I got in BMQ andnother courses for years and the shirts are getting a bit too worn out.

Anyone know a place to get the green/brown base shirts we were issued? I've seen a few different ones mentioned online, but don't want to buy the wrong ones.

Not sure why, just always been happy with them.

For context, most were recieved at Borden in late 2000s to mid 2010s.

Thanks

Finally in selection!

After almost a year in the application process, i finally made it to selection. My question is How long do you stay in selection?

Also starting to pack for bmq, what kind of bag or luggage should I buy to take with me to bmq?

Also, I know on the packing list it says black socks and underwear, is it OK it they have grey and black on the socks and underwear, or does it have to be all black?

Also, I'm flying from BC, so would i be able to bring full sized shampoo and conditioner, laundry soap ext...

I have applied for the navy experience program. Is there anything else that would be useful to bring for is as i will probably not be coming home for at least 4 mths. Any useful tips on what are essentials to bring that might not be on the list.

I'm a female, btw !

First-year CS student looking to pivot to ATIS Tech via NCM-STEP for Fall 2026 – Quick questions on timeline, and trade reality.

Hey everyone,

I’m an 18M currently based in the GTA. I just completed my first year of a Bachelor of Computer Science. I originally applied for an Officer track (ROTP) (last week), but as expected for June, my detachment confirmed that university spots are fully allocated for this year.

Since my primary goal is a subsidized tech stream where my education is funded while earning a salary, I am strongly considering dropping down to NCM-STEP for the Aerospace Telecommunications and Information Systems Technician (ATIS Tech) trade for this upcoming fall. I know Cyber Operator went Direct Entry only, so ATIS seems like the closest fit for my background.

Before I commit to changing my file with my recruiter, I’d love some real insight from people in the trade or recruiters on the sub:

  1. NCM-STEP Availability: Since it’s already June, is there realistically a chance that NCM-STEP intake quotas for ATIS Tech are still open for this September? Do hard-tech trades like this have more rolling flexibility compared to the strict ROTP caps?
  2. College Applications: If my recruiter gives me the green light, how does the college matching process look this late in the summer? Do people usually scramble for late admissions to local Ontario colleges (like Sheridan, Conestoga, Mohawk) for a 2-year Computer Systems diploma? Or would I have to go for something else?
  3. Feeder to Cyber: I've read on older threads that ATIS is a primary feeder trade for in-service selection into Cyber Operator later down the road. Is that still true with the recent trade overhauls?

Appreciate any advice, timelines, or honest reality checks you guys can provide. Thanks!

PR Applicant (Reserves) - Swearing in this Friday!

Hey everyone!

I’ve been a PR for a year (though I've lived in Canada under legal status for 6), and my reliability status finally cleared.
I’m officially having my enrollment ceremony as a reservist this Friday!

I submitted my application on February 26, 2026

Should I trust the progress shown on the portal?

All documents submitted, medically cleared, and completed the interview and force evaluation. Now they're doing security and background checks, but the portal still shows I'm in testing and screening.

How long have some of you waited during the security and backround check before the job offer?

Alright, like most of you. You guys are just eager to get in. This question is for the fellas that are already in. I just got my bar moved to 50% and we are at the security and background check. For reference im a average joe. Born in canada, never left the country, never did drugs, rarely drank, never broke law. how long usually could this be before i get the job offer? Especially with the trades i want.

Looking for Canadian patches

Hello all.

For a long story short, I’m originally from Montreal, but I moved to the US when I was 11. So I’m a dual citizen.

I’m wondering if there’s a site or maybe some people are willing to give up some naval patches that I can collect from the Canadian Navy and or any other service branch. I’m currently a American sailor and I’m starting a patch collection but of course I am from Canada so I’d like to start a Canadian patch collection as well if that’s even a thing like American patch collection.

I appreciate your guy’s direction and time thank you so much.

Medical appeal

Got a letter today from the D Med Pol stating that I was medically denied for previously documented mental health conditions as well as ongoing eczema treatment. I have been stable mentally for about 5 years now with no regular follow up, and am no longer on the medication I was on for eczema. In my letter, I was told that any additional information was unlikely to change their decision. Is it worth it to try to supply more information or would it be a waste of the RMO's time? If it wouldn't be a waste of time, what could I supply that would be helpful? I truly don't believe the decision is the correct one, however i don't want to be a nuisance to the people who made it.

CAF changed the application ?

I applied a few months back. I recently checked my application status and noticed that the professions I've chosen changed from IT Technician Regular Forces to Postal Clerk Reserve Forces. Still on the first step

I'm going to my regiment's office later this week to get any inquiries. Do you people have any idea what might be going on?

Thanks.

During the interview, the captain told me that Combat Engineer isn’t available right now. Instead, he offered me other trades

I applied for the Canadian Forces Reserves and I’m honestly pretty confused right now.

My medical and background checks are still in progress, and I had my interview today. I originally applied for Combat Engineer because that’s what I really want.

But during the interview, the captain told me that Combat Engineer isn’t available right now. Instead, he offered me other trades like Infantry, Cook, Armored Crew Member, and a few similar roles.

The issue is, I’m not really interested in those trades, and I don’t want to join something just for the sake of joining if it’s not what I actually want.

Now I’m stuck wondering: should I continue with the process and accept a different trade, or should I just step back and wait until my preferred trade becomes available (if it ever does)?

Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do?

Getting started on DP1 course (from a mental perspective). How do I do that?

So, as the title suggests, I am on my DP1 course, (also known as the trades course) and I ended my first day. Things are okay for now, but starting tomorrow we have inspections, and I now feel anxious about the course.

Is there anything I can do to help myself not be as anxious, or at least make my time a bit more bearable? I'm unsure of if I can keep going like this for 2 and a half months.

Should I keep trying to commission?

Hello everyone, I joined the CAF in 2023 as an NCM. I have a bachelors in commerce with a major in finance. I got posted to my first unit 2 years ago~ , and my CO believes it’s a good idea for me to commission using SCP. I applied last year and got rejected, I placed 29th on the ladder out of 60 for LogO (only 2 applicants got accepted). I’m now a Cpl, should I keep applying or should I focus on being the best NCM I could be, is there anything other than pay being the only benefit in the long run if I commission? I want to serve as long as I can and I’m committed to this organization.

Thank you all in advance, lookin for some guidance here.

Application Inquiry

Hello,

I have started my application back in August last year, testing and screening, background check all the way to medical. I am currently submitting last bit of medical information (clearance on my borderline mild sleep apnea)

My Portal shows im only on step one of the process. Do I have to re do all the previous steps I have done.

Also, how long does security and background check usually take after medical and interview. (I went to a vacation trip (Philippines) for a month in December 2024. would that affect it?

I have submitted all the references and background checks last year, I'm not sure if it's the same.

Thank you in advance for all the answers, tips and suggestions. I didnt want to bother the recruiting office right away, that's why I'm asking here for now.

The likelihood of deployments for Cyber Operator trade

Would like to join the CAF since I can't find a job. I have a computer science degree and the Cyber Operator role interests me the most. I am okay with relocating anywhere in Canada but I have a family and I don't want to be deployed without them. Are deployments likely for Cyber Operator, and what does it look like? Also, how does trade training look like and can I bring my family?
