Hey everyone, I could really use some advice because this situation has been dragging on and getting more frustrating over time.
I bought a MacBook Pro M4 around April last year, and for the first few months things were fine. Then around December, I started having screen issues. I first took it to a service center near my college in Manipal, and they quoted me around ₹40K for the repair, which didn’t make sense since it was under warranty. I didn’t go ahead there and instead got it checked in Gurgaon, where it was repaired for free under warranty. That was my first sign that something felt off—completely different diagnoses depending on the service center.
After that repair, more problems started showing up. The charging port got burnt, and the charger itself stopped working, so I had to get those replaced as well under warranty. At that point, I was already a bit concerned because these aren’t small issues—they’re major hardware components failing within months of each other.
Then recently, just a few days after my warranty expired, the keyboard completely stopped working. Not a few keys—literally the entire keyboard was dead. I submitted it to the service center, and to their credit, they said they would still cover it under a grace period since it had just gone out of warranty.
But this is where things really started going downhill.
They first replaced the keyboard, and that didn’t fix the issue at all. Then they replaced the logic board (motherboard), which is a pretty major component, and even after that, the keyboard still wasn’t working. Now they’re saying they’ve ordered a trackpad and want to replace that next, even though the trackpad never had any issue to begin with. It honestly feels like they’re just trying different parts without actually knowing what’s wrong.
On top of that, before I submitted the laptop, everything else was working fine—especially the fans. But after it’s been handled by the service center, the fans are now constantly running at high speed and making a lot of noise, which was never the case before. So now there’s a new issue that didn’t even exist earlier.
It’s been over two weeks at this point, and I still don’t have a working device. There have already been two failed repair attempts, major components have been replaced, and the core issue is still unresolved.
I’ve also spoken to Apple support multiple times and asked about the possibility of a replacement, but they basically said that replacements aren’t done in India, which I’m not entirely sure is true.
At this point, it really feels like I’ve ended up with a defective unit. There have been multiple major hardware failures, repeated unsuccessful repairs, and now even new problems introduced during servicing. I’ve been patient so far, but I honestly don’t feel confident about the long-term reliability of this laptop anymore.
So I wanted to ask—has anyone in India been in a similar situation and actually managed to get a replacement approved? Is there a certain point (like number of failed repairs) where they consider it? And should I be pushing harder for escalation, like asking for a senior advisor or customer relations, or even going down the consumer complaint route?
Also, is it normal for them to keep swapping unrelated parts like this?
Would really appreciate any advice or experiences. Thanks a lot for reading this.
