I highly recommend adding insurance on any gold package via USPS registered mail (the only way to insure bullion via USPS). I'll always package securely and personally drop off all packages at the post office counter, and ask for a receipt. Once the package is accepted by USPS and the hand-in receipt is provided, liability is transferred to USPS when insured shipping is selected.
