Built a plugin to automate captions in AE after doing it manually for years — anyone else think this workflow is broken?
Genuinely curious if other AE users find the caption workflow as
painful as I do.
My usual process was:
- Export audio
- Upload to a transcription service
- Fix errors
- Copy text back into AE
- Create text layers manually
- Time every single word
- Apply animations to each layer
For a 3-minute video that's 2-3 hours of work that adds zero
creative value.
I got frustrated enough that I spent the last 8 months building
a tool to automate it. It transcribes the audio locally using AI,
then generates animated caption layers directly in your comp —
markers control the timing so adjustments are instant.
Still in beta, happy to share access with anyone who wants to
