I only just discovered that when we fly internationally out of Australia, we already pay a “departure tax” built into the ticket price.

What surprised me is that I always assumed this was some minor or new fee, but it’s actually already part of every international ticket we buy, just not very visible unless you check the fare breakdown.

Now with the new budget, it looks like this is increasing by $10, taking it to $80 per departure.

I just checked an old international booking I made a few months ago and saw the $70 charge itemised there, which made me realise this has been there the whole time.

This is different from Passenger Movement Charge (PMC). What do we have PMC and Departure Tax?
