Impact of reduced ROM after shoulder surgery?

Hi all! For those of you who have had a shoulder surgery, and now have decreased range of motion following the surgery… How much has it impacted your life? What can’t you do anymore?

I’m considering a capsular tightening surgery due to instability caused by a traumatic dislocation 7 years ago in my right shoulder (loose capsule visualized on MRI and mechanical instability in assessments but only a few subluxations per year, not continuing to dislocate). Because I am mildly hyper mobile the surgeon stated she usually tightens it a little bit more than the average person because it is more likely that I will stretch with time.

Right now I have full range of motion with pain… and I expect decreased range of motion with less pain after surgery.

For those of you who have decreased shoulder range of motion, was it worth it? What can’t you do? Is your pain less?

Thank you. I’m so scared for this surgery! But 7 years of pain and instability has been disabling to say the least!

Anyone had a shoulder capsular tightening/plication surgery!?

Hi all!
I’ve (35f) had a horrible chronic injury for 8 years and finally a doctor is offering me a treatment! My shoulder was traumatically dislocated 7 years ago and it’s been unstable and in incredible pain since.

I’ve gotten a few opinions and both surgeons agree I have instability and anterior capsular laxity (on MRI). They both agreed plication of the anterior capsule will likely help my stability and pain.

I can’t find many patient testimonies online which really help to give me confidence so I’m hoping to find some here. Anyone have a similar surgery?

I also want to know that I am naturally hypermobile, but my other shoulder is just fine. And I understand it may stretch out again so that’s a risk I’m willing to take, but I’m most concerned about stiffness and the pain that may be associated with being overly tightened… any experiences with this?

Edit: i’ve done several rounds of physical therapy over and over, it causes so much pain that I’ve consistently been unable to progress. So at this point, I have failed out of conservative treatments.

Looking for community-discord or virtual meet ups

Hey everyone! 35 year-old female, who has been experiencing chronic pain for far too long. It’s hard to feel part of the world.

I want to feel a sense of community but have just been so isolated due to being in so much pain all the time. I would love to connect other folks who are in a similar situation! I’ve created a few support groups for other things in the past and they’ve been so helpful.

Does anyone on here have any interest in joining a chronic pain discord? Or virtual meet up? Or do you know of any that already exists?! ❤️‍🩹🫂

Discord Channel for Support ❤️‍🩹

Hey all,
I’m 35yo f just found out I have spinal stenosis and my chord is being compressed. I’m gutted. Shocked and honestly so freaking scared.

It’s been a little over a week since I found out. My arms tingle and I feel weak in my grip, excruciating life altering pain and have for years now and was misdiagnosed. Still Waiting to see specialists. It’s all been so overwhelming…

Long story short it’s been hell, but so many of you have made me feel less alone! Because of that, I created a discord for others in a similar situation to support one another. If you’re at a similar age or not! Please feel free to join so we can be there for each other more directly 💜

I may start a virtual support group down the line when I have capacity, but this is a start! 🫶🏽

Edit- Due to the disheartening comment from one mean redditor, please DM me for the discord link. Not posting it publicly.

How to cope with getting the news?

**Please tell me- how did you cope with learning about your neck issues? I have bone spurs, bulging discs, and stenosis in my cervical spine. Am I really so abnormal to have all of this at 35 y/o? I’m gutted.**

******It’s hard not to feel like this MRI is just a horrible sentence to a life of just more pain and more suffering.**

I’m a 35f, never had neck injury but have been dealing with severe debilitating pain in R shoulder due to what I thought was shoulder instability from a traumatic dislocation 7+ years ago. Doctors always shrugged their shoulders at me. No help. No insight despite me advocating and fighting for years.

FINALLY an orthopedic surgeon asked to see my cervical neck via imaging… and lo and behold…. MRI shows \*\*degeneration\*\* abnormal for my age.

I’m already so deeply exhausted from my shoulder injury; already feel so unable to do life and ADLs. And NOW my cervical neck is another issue?\*\* \*\*Potentially part of the issue all along?

\*\*Im so scared.\*\* How will I do it? I’m so exhausted already and I’m in pain every damn day. Am I too far gone? How long will it take to progress to a worse off place? Will I be forced to have surgery and lose range of motion and further decrease quality of life? Can I lose mobility soon, down the line? Paralysis? (I have so many scary thoughts and questions, it’s so overwhelming).

\*\*\\\*\\\* MRI FINDINGS \\\*\\\*:\*\*
\*\*SPINAL CORD\*\*: No cord signal abnormality. Slight flattening of the cervical cord at C5-C6 related to spinal canal stenosis.
\*\*DISCS\*\*: Mild multilevel disc desiccation.
\*\*BONES\*\*: Straightening of the cervical spine with slight kyphosis centered at C5-C6.
Normal vertebral body height. Marrow signal is normal.
\*\*\*C5-C6:\*\*\* \*Disc osteophyte complex. No significant neural foraminal stenosis. Mild to moderate spinal canal stenosis.\*

Shoulder instability lead to cervical stenosis, cervical bulging disc and bone spurs. I’m 35 and gutted.

Any recovery stories?? I’ve been minimized for seven years…. until one doctor finally thought that maybe all the shoulder pain (which no one could understand why was so bad) was related to my neck.

Does anyone have any success stories of actually feeling better?

My symptoms include stiffness in my neck and a lot of pain around my traps and neck muscles. It’s unbearable! It’s hard to do much and I really love being active :(

My shoulder instability causes a lot of pain too in my right shoulder- I had a severe dislocation seven years ago that never healed properly. But they keep saying to do PT which only aggravates all of it and makes life feel unbearable due to pain.

I also get tingling down my arms and weakness in my injured arm. Is this a death sentence? Will I ever experience life without suffering? I’m so hopeless and gutted. It’s been a cervical issue this whole time!?!?

Shoulder instability lead to cervical neck damage?!

I had a traumatic shoulder dislocation 7 years ago and I’ve been dismissed and minimized by doctors for way too long- my pain had been severe and unbearable!

Finally a shoulder surgeon said the tingling in my arm and pain in traps muscles sounds cervical.

Lo and behold per the cervical spine MRI I have a disc bulge, bone spurs, spinal Cord flattening and stenosis in my cervical spine (all in C4-C7) as well as kyphosis and dehydrated discs. I’m fucking terrified. I’m 35 y/o and have been pushing thru the pain for years due to minimization. I’m gutted. I just want my life back.

I want to lift weights again, carry my groceries again and wear a backpack without killer flairs.

Has anyone anyone else in my boat?! Are my results that bad!? (I’m waiting to see doctor in a few days but it’s torture waiting and I’m just hoping I’m not alone and maybe someone else has healed from damage like mine?)

I’ll post MRI results in comments don’t know how here 💜

Has anyone here successfully submitted and received accommodations at work for endo?! And if so can you let me know how your functional limitations were described?

My doctor said my only option is intermittent FMLA but I have a disability and want accommodations for flair days so looking to push back… would love to hear from you!

Online Spanish Courses

Hi!

I know Spanish moderately well (conversational). I studied up to intermediate Spanish in college and even read a teen book! But it’s been 15 years and I’ve lost so much!

I now speak Spanish like it’s English if you know what I mean? Direct translation of English sentences and it’s so sad!

I’m looking for a refresher course online, but have not had luck finding anything seemingly worthy. I found this but am
Not sure if it’s just a money grab??
