Blepharities only on one Eye?

Has anyone experienced blepharitis only in ONE eye + extreme sensitivity to perfumes/shampoos?

I’ve been struggling with eye problems for months now and I honestly don’t know anymore if this is mild blepharitis, dry eye, damaged oil glands, allergies, or something else.

According to an eye doctor, it’s probably mild blepharitis, but the weird thing is that it’s almost only on my right eye, especially the outer part of the eyelid. My left eye is mostly fine.

What also suddenly changed is that I became EXTREMELY sensitive to perfumes and cosmetic products. I can barely use shampoos, face creams, eye creams, or anything with fragrance anymore. Even products I used for years suddenly make my right eye burn or feel inflamed for almost an entire day.

The whole thing started after I switched from cigarettes to only vaping for about a month because I thought it would be healthier. Around the same time I got a pretty bad flu/influenza, and during the flu my eyes became extremely red, especially the right one. Since then the irritation never fully disappeared.

Several eye doctors kept prescribing antibiotics for weeks, but honestly they never really helped and sometimes even felt like they made everything worse. Eventually another eye doctor diagnosed mild blepharitis and only recommended:

- warm compresses/heated eye mask

- eyelid cleaning

- regular eyelid hygiene

Another thing that scares me:

Before all of this, I could still cry normally sometimes, but now I basically can’t cry anymore. The last time I properly cried was around January/February. Since then it feels like my eyes don’t produce tears normally anymore.

My symptoms also fluctuate a lot:

Some days I barely notice anything, other days the irritation suddenly comes back stronger again on my right outer eyelid. That’s why I don’t understand if this is something chronic or something that can still fully heal.

What I currently use:

- Aroma Season heated eye mask

- Posiforlid eyelid hygiene wipes

- Relys eye drops

- Benevi eyelid cream

- avoiding fragranced products as much as possible

- quit nicotine smoking/vaping almost completely

(I still occasionally use a cannabis vaporizer.)

What I’m mainly wondering:

- Can blepharitis really happen only in one eye?

- Can perfumes/shampoos suddenly become unbearable because of it?

- Did anyone else get worse from antibiotics?

- How do you properly clean eyelids without irritating them even more?

- Does this sound more like blepharitis, dry eye, MGD, allergies, or something else?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who experienced something similar because mentally this has been exhausting after months of dealing with it. I appreciate every help❤️.
