An orphan girl in medieval Japanese book was adopted by an older Master of Martial Arts who fed and clothed her teaching her the ways of the Martial Arts community. He insisted she change, dress as a boy, took a boys Name (which is important later) to enter to Martial Arts competition in the Arena. The ones who won, only boys were allowed to enter, got to connect with a Dragon that took care of the fighters. To accept their own Dragon they had to give them their real name. That is why the name was so important, I believe the Master figured out why no one was chosen by this dragon for hundreds of years. They weren't women. Something else that was also extremely important, is that our young female champion was disabled. To do the kick that won her, her place in the competition was due to her hip not being aligned correctly.
