I replaced my porch fan. It had two switches before. Didn’t get a picture of the previous fan. . .. I wired it up with black to back, white to white, red to blue, and grounds together, and one switch controlled both the light and the fan. The other did nothing. I switched it to black (house) to blue, and red to black on the fan and now the light works, but only if the fan is on.

I feel so confused. The first configuration “should work”. Please help. Thanks.
