hyrax pet owning rant

something that has began to get under my skin is the owning of hyrax pets, and such videos are very rampant throughout the internet. it's mostly hyraxes being barred in cages which makes me so, so sad for these poor beasts. at least hyraxes like gohan have free range around their living space, but still, hyraxes are not adequate pets due to their 1.) bad temperature regulation 2.) they aren't domesticated and 3.) they are incredibly social animals that need other hyraxes—or at least other animals—to form bonds with. hyraxes get very depressed if they are alone and isolated.

i wish there was more people speaking out about the awareness of the inadequacy of keeping hyraxes as pets. i do my best to avoid pages and videos where there are hyraxes trapped in cages and/or display highly aggressive behaviors toward their owners. as cute and lovable as these beasts are, we have to speak up about the drawbacks of owning a hyrax. they aren't suited for domestic life.

i worry that people will continue to turn blind eyes if no awareness is brought up and if proper education isn't given.
