Blade is facing off against Wolverine again next month, here's a look at their up and down friendship over the years

Despite occupying different worlds, Wolverine is one of the heroes Blade has actually shared the most time with in the comics. It starts almost a century ago with Wolverine saving an earlier, less experienced Blade's life and giving him his first black trench coat. While Percy wrote that they met again in the 90s, the two actually clash for the first time during the Superhero Registration Act when SHIELD tactitions peg Blade to be their best shot at arresting Wolverine in exchange for full amnesty.

Blade and Wolverine fight until Blade recalls their first meeting and tells SHIELD that Wolverine is off limits. They meet several years later in Madripoor. While Blade still seems to think fondly of Wolverine, Wolverine clearly is not a fan after Blade nearly turned him into a vampire to kill him. In classic comic book fashion, a poorly worded prophesy leads the two to turn on each other before they realize the actual energy is a vampiric Wolverine clone, which they quickly defeat. This outing seems to actually connect the two.

They meet again on good terms when Blade realizes Xarus is attempting to grow his vampire army by turning mutants. Blade joins the X-Men to take down Xarus, but leaves on bad terms when Cyclops knocks him out for trying to kill Dracula, and then Wolverine confronts him for trying to kill a vampiric Jubilee.

Its not clear how the two mends things, so I'm guessing Wolverine feels indebted to Blade after he saves Daken and X-23 from the monster Siphon, who nearly kills Daken. This all occurred while Wolverine was dead (encased in adamantium).

This seems to solidify their friendship as Blade references having drinks and exchanging intelligence with Wolverine in his free time while on the Avengers, and the two work together well on the previous iteration of the Midnight Sons (Suns). Wolverine discusses his respect for Blade when he finds out that he is behind the Blood Hunt fiasco, but later on reflects that Blade wouldnt be the first hero to turn bad.

This leads to their latest confrontation, where it seems that Wolverine (along with many other heroes) still don't trust Blade after Blood Hunt.

In honor of the new Doomsday trailer, all the times Blade has faced Dr. Doom

Surprisingly after Dracula, Dr. Doom might be the major villain that Blade has fought the most.

Billups summarizes playing with Melo: "He was the most talented dude I ever played with...it was literally perfect. And he listened, Melo never missed a practice, he practiced hard, he came to work everyday. It was beautiful."

What's been your favorite Blade team?

He's been in several iterations of the Midnight Sons/Suns, a few Avengers teams, and a handful of random taskforces (Strikeforce and Vanguard).

Personally always liked Blade on the espionage teams, would love to see a better version of the howling commandos OR a better version of strikeforce that has a more coherent team that has the fantasy elements.

Reports are Marvel is about to radically rework Blade for their new Midnight comic universe. What would you want to see in a new Blade?

From Bleeding Cool: >Midnight is intended to be Marvel's equivalent of both DC Comics' Vertigo line and their Absolute line all in one. Not creator-owned obviously, and using Marvel Comics characters of course, but focusing on the horror side of the equation. We're talking Blade, Darkhold, Ghost Rider, Dracula, Werewolf By Night, Morbius, Spirits Of Vengeance and the like, and the name is a reference to the old Midnight Sons branding for that side of Marvel Comics. Except this will be in its own universe, with big names and radical reworkings of these characters and concepts, as well as various Marvel concepts that have not been revived since their original publications.

From the Comic Beat: >The Beat can confirm reports the new publishing effort is being spearheaded by Jonathan Hickman and Philip Kennedy Johnson, though it’s not clear if Midnight has anything to do with the latter’s current Infernal Hulk series or not. Since the initial announcement e-mail, Benjamin Percy has also teased his involvement, sharing the same graphic to his social media platforms. Percy’s tease comes just hours after the writer announced he’d inked a two-year extension to write exclusively under the Marvel umbrella.

Wish Bryan Hill was brought into the fold, but this is exciting. We actually haven't seen much of a radical take on Blade...ever? Most other media versions are some interpretation of Snipes. The Ultimate Version is the movie version except Blade is trained by Stick. Bryan Hill and Jason Aaron expanded the types of stories Blade could be a meaningful part of.

Part of me is hoping for a reimagined origin story (with an authentically interesting father for him) and maybe an expansion on the vampire lore. I'm really hoping we don't just get another altered movie version.
