I've read both books, and am caught up on both the series at this point. The book and the series of the Handmaid's Tale were nearly identical for the time that they overlapped. I found that impressive to pull off, but was disappointed to find so many things changed in The Testaments with many changes being beyond what I would expect from an adaptation. My biggest qualms are with the diminishment of Aunt Lydia and the enhanced role of June. I didn't expect to feel so angry after the season finale, but I'm not even sure I'm looking at the same story.
