By request, here’s my most updated floor shot of my full Crypt run! I took this almost exactly a year ago, 8/8, after several months of upgrading some of the earlier issues. The run includes the first and second appearances of the Crypt Keeper in Crime Patrol.
(I can do a similar shot for Vault, or just about any other EC title excluding Pre-Trends. Stay tuned!)
I’ve done a handful of upgrades to this title this year! Here’s a floor shot of my new improved run.
Larry Stark would have been 94 today. Larry, named “EC’s Number One Fan” by none other than Bill Gaines, passed on May 1st of this year. A fan for life, he is greatly missed!
Current top of my list: the guitar-driven “Got To Get You Into My Life” sans horns that was introduced on Revolver Super Deluxe and then featured on Anthology 4
The free MAD #1 facsimile offered exclusively at Comic-Con is NOT simply their recent reprint edition with a new outer wrap. There is no pricing on the repro front cover and no QR or barcode information on the back cover. There is a new September 2026 indicia date, and a Daily Planet insert bound into the middle of the book.
The inside front cover has a Comic-Con schedule for DC panels, and the inside back cover is a subscription ad. There’s a blank back cover for “autographs and sketches.”
The new cover using Jack Davis Superman art from MAD #19 is fantastic! I think the absolute strangest thing for me is seeing the EC logo on the left with a DC logo on the right. Overall, a fantastic freebie!
Behold! By far the thickest book in the EC Artist’s Library series is coming!
I own 4 GFCs, Picture Stories from American History 3, Vault of Horror 25, Frontline Combat 14, and Extra! 2. I’m very happy to have these - such history, like little time capsules!
Here’s an ad for Crime Patrol 15, the first appearance of the Crypt Keeper, that appeared in War Against Crime 10, the first appearance of the Vault Keeper. EC history!
It’s not exactly a big secret that I am obsessed with the Big Book, aka Horror Comics of the 1950’s, I have multiple copies from distinguished collections, and they all mean a lot to me.
But none more than this one! There is no Big Book bigger in my heart!
This is Angelo Torres‘s personal copy, signed to him by Bill and Al.
This is of course the book in which his only solo EC story, An Eye for an Eye, premiered after being banned by the arbitrary comics code in 1955. His copy is such a big piece of EC history, and I can’t begin to describe how meaningful it is to me.
HOOHAH!!!
I have to say this was one of the adaptations for the Tales from the Crypt TV show that I enjoyed, and the reason I say that is that there were a lot of them that I didn’t really enjoy!
I’ve always loved how many fans discovered EC because of that show but so many of the adaptations were so far off from the original stories, to the point of being completely unrecognizable in many cases.
My favorites were always the ones that were the truest to the original comic stories, but I also know that people who hadn’t read the comics have their own favorites for multiple reasons - and at the end of the day I just love that so many people discovered the great originals because of that show!
Starting in November, artist specific one-shots from Oni
EC Fan-Addict Club panel Sat. at 9PM with deep diving on the upcoming Crypt of Covers collection.
I love the old house ads that appeared in the center spreads of the comics. This one was in Weird Fantasy #6
This just arrived in the mail - except for the little tear at the top it’s a beauty! The classic Feldstein cover predicts the robot revolution we are starting to experience…75 years ago!
Preorders now through Fantagraphics, release date is Oct. 20. It’s not cheap at $300, but it’s 5 volumes in a slipcase and includes the first 7 magazine issues with the 23 comic book issues!
EC Annuals were four random unsold comics from the previous year with the covers stripped, bound into a new cover. Contents varied. I didn't bother with them for years for that reason - "you're just buying it for the cover!" Well, I did, of course, start seeking out the Annuals when I had completed other runs, and I have to say...the covers are WORTH it! Take this one by Al Feldstein - amazing! This is my most recent Annual pickup, I now have all except for the 1951 Tales of Terror Annual. (There were 3 horror, the first is the rarest, 2 sci-fi, and 2 war annuals)
