Post mid urethral sling

Yesterday was two weeks post having quite a bit of work done on my abdomen. I got my uterus and my tubes removed as well as some repair and a mid urethral sling placed. The surgeon accidentally nicked my bladder during surgery so she had to stitch that and I ended up going home with a catheter for a week that was removed last Monday so one week post surgery and I had the hardest time urinating. Like in the morning, I pushed super hard which was painful because of all of the other pieces of my surgery and I called so they had me go back in and they replaced the catheter for another week. That was pretty awful because the second week with the second catheter really felt like I had to pee 100% of the time sometimes in the day or maybe different positions I was sitting or lying in I could feel it less, but it mostly always felt like I had to go.

I had the catheter removed yesterday for the second time and the act of urinating was much much easier than before however, I’m still experiencing a constant feeling of urgency to go to the bathroom like I’ve never felt the relief of actually going. Has this happened to anyone else with the sling? I have my actual postop appointment on Friday so I will discuss it with them at that time as well, but I’m wondering if that feeling just may goes away the longer you heal?

I’m about 6 hours post op. I’ll post below what was all done. When I woke up I found out my surgeon nicked my bladder. As a result, I’ll have to be discharged with a catheter, and it may be a 2 night stay instead of just tonight. Catheter needs to remain in…. for a week. I’m really distraught about this piece, I HATE catheters. How do you poop with a catheter? I bawled when I found out.. and again a couple more times. Tell me I’m being irrational?? Ugh 😭

I have surgery scheduled for Monday. I’m having a laparoscopic sacral colpopexy, supracervical hysterectomy, bilateral salpingectomy..and also a midurethral sling placed…my doctor will make the call on my ovaries when she sees them. I have had repeat cysts (with two cystectomies) so I’m not holding my breath I get to keep them which is probably contributing to my anxiety as I really don’t want to start menopause yet at 44. I’m staying one night overnight.

I’ve been reading all the posts here on what to have on hand to prepare when I’m discharged but there are so many opinions and suggestions. I bought gasX and stool softener, I have some lightweight nightgown style dresses…my husband is ready to do all the things (cook, clean, drive kids, etc.) for at least a month..why do I not feel prepared? Can I just use a regular thin pillow if needed for seatbelts? Do I really need a squishmallow or an abdomen pillow? Should I have a heating pad? Or ice packs? I am totally type A and not feeling like I have a good checklist for my planner brain.
