Captain from Armageddon box
I’m on the fence about the blue cloak lining (it is a more normal beige / cream the other side). Otherwise it’s a very cool sculpt. I think I like him more than the 9th Ed captain.

I popped in to my local Warhammer store to try the new paint range as I (like I guess many of you) will be thinking about what the yellow is like!
There is a yellow which is pretty close to Averland Sunset and above it has a yellow more like imperial fists. This was the ‘3’ yellow I think.
I chose a black primed model that a pauldron had already been painted green by a previous user and just went for it. It was initially patchy but I realised I had used a wet brush and got the paint a little watery on first go (as in the wetness you’d normally use on existing paint). The store guy said to sort of ‘splodge’ it on and let the drying process do the work. It dried slowly but putting it on “thick” like that felt wrong but worked. Sweeping brush strokes seemed not to be what it wanted.
I put the red on and then found I needed to wait before doing the usual back and forth where the lines aren’t right (normal paint dries faster so you can correct straight away without the paint wet blending at the red/yellow margins). I painted the base and then a bit of blue before going over it with a really watery black. This behaved almost the same as nuln oil so that was handy. I did some playing with a blend on the flamer and that felt like it would work nicely with practice. I then went back over the red and yellow to tidy where the black ‘wash’ was over the middle of panels.
Overall I’d say it is a really easy paint to get colours like yellow down. I think with practice I could get a sense of how much paint you need to ‘one coat’ in yellow (ie how splodgy) but I ended up touching up on a second coat. The good thing was that over black you didn’t get that greenish tinge you normally get. I figure you wouldn’t need to undercoat in pink with this paint.
This was about 75 mins of chatting and painting. I’m no painting expert but for an ‘Everyman’ painter, these paints feel like they would help slay the grey with more ease than the previous generation of paints. I think I’ll get their yellow and white to see how they feel and then go from there.
Hope it helps!
I bashed this together as a proxy for Guillerman and cut it down to a round base. I think I might pop it back to an oval base to run as a Captain on bike. What other minis on griffons (or similar) do you think would work for characters?
