Need Advice Repainting a Plastic Motorcycle Tank & Fenders (Full Process, Products, Prep, etc.)

Hi everyone, I could really use some advice.

I want to repaint the fuel tank (mainly) and also the two fenders on my motorcycle. The tank is plastic (same for the fenders), but I’m not exactly sure what type of plastic it is. I’ll attach some photos so you can better understand the current condition.

Most of the marks you can see are adhesive residue from old decals that were underneath the clear coat.

I’ll be spraying everything with a compressor setup, so I’d like to understand all the proper steps to get a durable, long-lasting result.

In particular, I’d like to ask:

  • What grit sandpaper should I start with?
  • What grit should I finish with before painting?
  • Do I need a specific plastic primer/adhesion promoter? If so, what type?
  • Should I also use another type of primer/surfacer?
  • What kind of paint would you recommend? 2K, solvent-based, water-based, something else?
  • For a long-lasting job, what products/process would you suggest?
  • How many coats should I apply for primer, color, and clear coat?
  • How long should I wait between coats?
  • Is it recommended to sand between the different stages?
  • Is it better to paint over the original paint or strip everything down to bare plastic?
  • If filler is needed, is there a specific type that should be used on plastic parts?

Any other important tips or common mistakes to avoid?

Any advice on products, the correct process, or things to watch out for would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

OpenWrt/dnsmasq → AdGuard Home setup: possible to keep client visibility with DNS failover?

Hi everyone,

I’m running OpenWrt with dnsmasq on my router and AdGuard Home on separate hardware.

My current setup is:

Clients → OpenWrt/dnsmasq → AdGuard Home → Upstream DNS

In LuCI (under DHCP and DNS), I’ve set the AGH IP in the "DNS forwardings" list, alongside a few public DNS servers. I chose this approach so that the router handles DNS directly. If AGH goes offline, dnsmasq automatically falls back to the public upstream servers, keeping the network alive.

While this works great for resiliency and failover, the major downside is losing client visibility. In AGH, all requests show up as coming from the router (192.168.1.1) rather than individual client IPs or hostnames.

Is there a way to preserve client visibility in AGH while maintaining this OpenWrt-fronted architecture and automatic fallback?

I’d like to avoid distributing AGH and a public DNS as Primary/Secondary via DHCP, as I know some clients don't strictly adhere to that order and might bypass AGH entirely while it's online.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
