How to I fix my paint?

So backstory, I bought this 65 Galaxie. It was painted in the late 90s. Supposedly it was sprayed in a single stage 1992 ford ranger red. When I got the car I buffed the paint with Meguiars ultimate compound with no issues. I threw a coat of wipe on Meguiars carnauba wax. Driving the car on the 4th I got a small rain shower and now these spots are on the paint and won’t come off without buffing again. Besides a full respray with base clear, what’s a fix here to keep these from staying?
Pappys patina?
Ceramic coating?

I know the respray is the the fix but I need the car to drive for a road trips this summer.

High Heat paint for wheels?

So I have a set of wheels that have faded considerably. I am wanting just a quick cheap paint job to get them looking black again.

I have a ton of this Rustoleum High Heat enamel paint left from an old job. I’m hoping I can use this on the wheels so I don’t have to buy new stuff?? And then just apply a satin or gloss clear coat after that.

Thoughts?

Help with avoiding water spots on paint

Hey all.
For context, I have a 2019 Mustang GT in shadow black.
I got my car ceramic coated about two months ago and it is amazing, but I have one issue and that is water spots with the rain. Where I live rain can be sporadic and from what I’ve been told, I should wash my car after it rains every single time I’ve already gotten tired of washing my car basically all the time or not driving places because I know it’s going to rain and I don’t wanna wash my car basically every other day.

For example,
this week it rained a little bit today. It’s not raining now and it’s going to rain later today. Tomorrow is sunny then there is a possibility for rain every day for the rest of the week. I know if I leave the water spots in the direct sunlight it’s going to etch the paint. When should I wash my car? Should I wash it after every single time it rains or should I wash it after every rain cycle?

If there’s any other information that you all need to help me better, please ask. Thank you for all the help. Anything is helpful. More information the better.

Mud-Cracks - Motorcycle Tank

I was painting a motorcycle panel using Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover primer and then a ColorSpec base coat. I sprayed the base coat within the recommended recoat window, but after the second coat the surface started developing a weird cracked, dry-mud / alligator-skin texture across the whole part. They were not there when The primer dried. The primer and topcoat seem to be reacting badly even though I followed the timing on the can. I’m trying to figure out whether this is solvent attack, an incompatibility issue, or just too-heavy coats, and what I should do to fix it and avoid it next time.

Advice Painting Color Over New “Matte Black” PP & ABS Parts

I have a rear spoiler and spats that I bought to take a crack at painting something with an Eastwood rattle can automotive paint code and some 2k clear in my garage. I’ve spray painted a bunch of stuff over the years with good results but I’m not super educated on the subject and want to give myself the best shot at good results here. The spoiler is pretty much rigid and is ABS. The spats are flexible, are made of PP and will have to bend slightly when they’re fastened to the car. Both parts came with a matte black finish from the factory that seems pretty nice and even. The color I’m painting is the newer Honda bright blue called boost or racing blue pearl depending on market.

- this color and 2k clear from a can going to be ok on a flexible part like the PP spats?

- what grit would you sand? 800? 1000?

- Primer? Adhesion promoter? Scuff and paint since they’re already finished? …What’s your recommendation on process?

I’ve seen bulldog recommended in videos etc but I saw a recent post here where someone said it’s lacking a chemical to make it effective on PP.

Happy to provide any other info you need! Thanks in advance!!! 😊

I am trying to get rid of orange peel. Currently wet sanding with 1000 grit. Do i have to get all the clear to be cloudy? Or can i stop here and respray clear? What would you do? Thanks in advance.

Paint matched black plastic trim

Has anyone ever paint matched the black textured plastic on their Škoda?

I know the obvious answer would be to buy the sportline trim, but I really hated the seats and the interior felt way too ‘boy racer’.

I much preferred the seats and interior in the SE L model, so ended up going with a Karoq Edition, which comes with the pan roof and bigger alloy wheels.

I’ve had the car for a couple years now and noticed the textured plastic is beginning to fade and having to apply trim dressing all the time is a chore.

Google Gemini has mocked this up which I think looks pretty cool!

Can anyone hazard a guess what happened to my truck?

It's a 2020 Sierra Denali, I wash it every other week as needed. I've had it 4 months, it has no previous damage to the area. I washed it Friday, didn't drive it Saturday and went to climb in this morning and found this. It was 30C/80F yesterday and parked next to my plastic garbage bins but there was nothing reflecting onto it but I always park there and have never had an issue.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Edit: my wife just sent me this article which says that this isn't an unknown issue on this particular truck but it seems like a pretty obscure issue I didn't think to research before buying it.

I might be fightin' with GMC now.

What would cause this haze to a appear a month after being painted?

Hey guys, I had my Firebird painted last June. When I picked up the car the passenger quarter panel looked fine but after about a month it turned hazy and I can see the prep work through the paint.

What would cause this? I never sanded or buffed on the car but the person that painted it did.

It’s a single stage paint job by the way if that matters.

The first picture is the day I brought home. Then about a month later all this haze appears and you can see a black spot showing through which is the black spot you can see before it was painted in the last photo.

Where did a go wrong?

I’m a brand new to automotive painting, so I was spraying some practice sheet metal. On this sheet, I was on my 5th coat of clear (because I wanted to practice wet sanding it pretty heavily) and it ended up adding this big dull spot in the middle of the metal. I want to learn what I did wrong so I can improve. Was it because I was on my 5th coat of clear and things didn’t dry/stack right or is it a more application technique error on the 5th coat spray? I did feel I sprayed the last coat a little too close and too wet.

Painting plastic bumpers

Hi all,

I am trying to sell my car and it needs some paintwork done. Unfortunately I cannot afford to take it to a professional as I simply dont have the money for it.

I practiced a bit on a separate car part and I believe I got the basic idea down. Unfortunately I cannot move on with the work because I dont know yet the car's color code. The drivers side frame does not mention the color code but I will try and take it to a professional color mixer and see if they can help me out.

I had a white color paint bottle and thats what I trained with once I prepared the part surface. I notice that the surface does not have the same glossiness as my car has. Initially I applied paint in thinner layers and this made it only slightly glossy. Then I tried applying it in a thicker layer, enough so that the paint does not drip. This looked a more shiny but still far away from what my car has.

My question, if I get the right color mix... will that fix the issue or is it about how the paint is applied that will make the surface finish so shiny? What control do I have over this?

I tried using laquer and it didnt change much.

I know the last stage would be waxing and this could help a bit but I am hoping to learn about other approaches.

Much appreciated for any input.

Sand out orange peel before clear coat?

this is my first paint job, a motorcycle tank and parts.

I sprayed the base coat yesterday and even though I did light even coats it looks like I ended up with some orange peel.

I am wondering if this will be ok or should I apply more base first, or should I let it harden and then wet sand with 2000 grit to try and smooth it out before shooting the urethane clear coat?

I plan to paint my car myself for the first time and need advice(flakes)

Hello everyone,

I plan to paint my car and want to use some flakes(2oz for the whole car) to get a little pop of color.
I was unsure if I needed a clear base for it to work or could I just use the clear coat.
My main concern with mixing the flakes into the clear is that when you apply the flakes you need to be constantly shaking the gun so that the flakes are distributed evenly within the liquid, this could potentially introduce air bubbles and mess up the layer even if it is sanded with 600-800 grit after. Will I have the same issue if I have the clear base?

Does anyone know where to find true Vanta Black?

I have an art car and I’m just looking to paint one panel vanta black for a sort of “white board” but the opposite? The panel on the other side is a chalkboard so it seems only fitting haha..

I’ve seen some acrylic options that are supposed to give a similar effect but curious if there’s some lesser known options I haven’t heard about.

Thanks!

Need Tips in How to Polish Front Lip

I cracked scraped the shit out of this GF Style Front Lip for my Civic. Decided to sand the whole thing down and instead of colour matching (white) I decided to spray paint the whole thing gloss black along with some clear coat. I’d like to think I did a pretty good job for my first time. In the last photo I think I sprayed too much clear coat and will need to use 1500-2000 grit sandpaper to smooth it out then reapply a light clear coat.

Any recommendations on how to polish and smooth out that orange peel texture? Additionally, how do I repair a crack in ABS Plastic? (see last pic for crack)

Urethane waves or wrong sanding grit ?

Hi,

I was testing some finishes on a spare motorcycle fender I have. After the clear was cured I try starting to block sand at 1500 and finishing with 3000, and after I polished the fender I noticed the reflection weren't straight, I basically had visual orange peel so, my question is, did I do wrong by not starting coarser like 800 or 1000 or did apply too much clear resulting having urethane waves ?

I did 3 medium wet coats

Hazy paint after sanding

I got a couple of deep stone chips and I wanted to fix them. Here is what I did:

  1. Filled them with one of those paint pens until it was a little bit higher than areas around it.
  2. Used 1500 sandpaper only on the extra paint, used 2000 to flash it, and 3000 for the small area around it.
  3. Used a RYOBI buffer and the components that came with it (2 pieces of cloths) to polish and buff the area using Meguiar’s Ultimate Polish.

The result is good and I cannot see them even under direct sunlight but if I get the light in the right direction then I see the hazy areas that I sanded.

In the YouTube videos I watched, after polishing those sanded areas seem perfect but mine doesn’t. What did I do wrong and how can I fix it?
