Ferber at 4.5 months

Our LO is 4.5 months old and our schedule is 1.75/1.75/2/2/2.5 with 3-3.5 hr/day sleep, wake up 7am and bedtime 8pm.

We’ve been doing Ferber for the past week (although unfortunately we haven’t been super consistent)
- Day 1 50’ of crying, slept for 3’ and then cried for 10’ at that point we gave up and fed to sleep
- Day 2 40’ of crying
- Day 3 28’ of crying
- Day 4 40’ of crying and we picked her up and fed to sleep
- Day 5 45’ of crying
- Day 6 10’ of crying
- Day 7 about 7’ of crying

Things have significantly improved over the past 2 days however it still takes her about 40-50’ to fall asleep even though she only cries for 7-10’ in total. Is that an issue with our schedule? 50’ feels like a long time.

Ferber at 19 weeks

Hi all,

We started sleep training using the Ferber method for our 19-week old. She‘s generally a good sleeper and has been giving us 5-6 hour stretches but for the past 1.5 months she’s been feeding to sleep and only naps in the carrier so we decided to start sleep training before things get completely out of hand.

Day 1 was horrible, we put her to bed at 8:10 she cried for 50’, then fell asleep for 3’ and then woke up again and was crying for 10‘ so we decided to give up. She was drenched in sweat and needed a diaper change so we ended up changing clothes and diaper, cuddling and feeding to sleep.

I thought there was a schedule issue so for Day 2 we decided to put her to bed later based on the average bedtime from huckleberry Which is 9pm. We feed, then did our bedtime routine (bath, massage, PJs and lullaby) and then put her to bed at 8:40. We used the day 1 intervals since we technically failed day 1 and she fell asleep a minute before the second 10’ interval was up. The check ins seemed to help her calm down. She woke up at 2:20am and 4:40am to feed and then 6:15 she was up for the day. I think the later bedtime made a huge difference. She took 3 naps during the day - 2 hrs, 1 hr and 30 minutes.

I’m trying to figure out a consistent schedule, as of now we are using huckleberry sweet spot and mainly doing 4 naps a day, trying to max out daytime naps at 3.5 hours in total. But I’m having so much trouble because of how variable our mornings are. Should we just stick to huckleberry? Sometimes the suggestion for the last naps is at 6:30-7pm which seems very late. I’m happy to continue 1-2 overnight feeds since she’s still so little but we’re struggling with early morning wakes, frequently before 6am.

Also, any suggestions on what to do with naps? She can take long naps but has so much difficulty falling asleep during daytime, even in the carrier! and as of now we don’t have any other way to get her to sleep, she won’t nap in her crib, stroller, or by rocking her. We’re still doing carrier naps for now until Bedtime with Ferber is going well. I’ve read about the “crib hour” but long naps are not an issue for us so I’m not sure that will be helpful.

Any input would be highly appreciated, thank you and sorry for the long post!!
