2012 Ford Fusion SE – oil in coolant but runs fine… how screwed am I?

Just picked up a 2012 Ford Fusion SE (4D) with about 104k miles for $3,500. The car actually runs and drives fine, no major drivability issues right now.

But I noticed oil in the coolant reservoir

From what I’ve checked/learned so far:

The car isn’t overheating (at least not yet)
Engine runs smooth
No obvious white smoke
Issue seems limited to oil showing up in coolant
Not sure if it’s engine oil or possibly trans fluid (haven’t confirmed color 100%)

I’m trying to figure out what I’m dealing with before I dump money into it.

From my understanding, possible causes:

Head gasket
Oil cooler (if applicable)
Transmission cooler in radiator

What I’m worried about:

If it’s a head gasket, repair cost is like $2k–$3k which is basically the value of the car
If it’s a radiator/trans cooler issue, that’s way cheaper and more manageable

Main questions:

How can I confidently tell if it’s engine oil vs transmission fluid in the coolant?
If the car is running fine, how long can I realistically drive it like this?
Is it even worth fixing at this price point?
What would YOU check first before assuming worst case (head gasket)

I don’t want to throw money at the wrong repair or get cooked by a misdiagnosis.

Any advice from people who’ve dealt with this on a Fusion (or similar) would help a lot.
