Bought a Firefox Meteor 700C, found out it was manufactured in 2021 — now I regret my choice and need advice
Hey everyone,
I bought a Firefox Meteor 700C hybrid 2 months ago from a local cycle shop for ₹20,000 without much research . Wanted to share my experience and get some advice from this community.
How it happened:
Visited the shop without any intention of buying that day. The salesman was persuasive, I test rode it, liked it, and ended up making an advance payment on the spot without proper research. Classic impulse buy under sales pressure.
Issues I discovered after purchase:
• Small scratch on the frame
• The derailleur logo were smudged and faded
• Rear disc brake needs adjustment
• Bike was manufactured in 2021 and sold to me in 2026 — confirmed by Firefox customer care themselves
Firefox response:
Contacted Firefox customer care and they were actually responsive. They spoke to the dealer and sent me this:
"We have spoken with the concerned dealer regarding your issue, and they are ready to assist in resolving it. We have advised the dealer to ensure all necessary checks are confirmed before handing over bikes to customers in the future."
Dealer has already provided one free service.
Also, the dealer has done a gear tuning for free
and covered up the scratch on the Cycle using paint.
My concerns:
Is selling 5 year old stock as new without disclosure acceptable?
Are the smudged logos and brake issues consistent with old stock sitting in a warehouse?
What should I reasonably demand from the dealer given Firefox's backing?
Current situation:
Bike rides well overall, tyres haven't lost air in 2 months which is a good sign. Just want to know if I have legitimate grounds to push for more from the dealer or if I should just get the brake fixed and move on.
Also, I feel regret over this purchase now and feel like I should just sell the bicycle and be done with it.
I know it sounds unreasonable and illogical but it's just something that keeps gnawing at my mind all the time.
Any advice from experienced riders here would be really helpful.
