I am looking for some guidance on caring for a parent with Dementia. I’m currently in Houston and might be taking over care for my mom who has dementia.

My mother brings in about 3,500/month. I would most likely have to leave my job or reduce my hours to provide care. The other option would be move back home to the NE which I dread.

I’m really torn on what to do. The goal is to keep her out of a memory care facility for as long as possible. I know this sounds selfish but I still want to be able to have a life and meet someone to do life with.

Has anyone taken care of their parent with dementia on their own and somehow been able to make it all work?

I welcome any tips and advice.
