I’d like to refinish this door, with stain or paint, and the owner reports that the door has been stripped, primed and painted several times but keeps failing in the same way and in one specific area of the door. The door does not get any direct sun or moisture. It looks to me as though perhaps the door was originally varnished, and that the varnish has not been fully removed. (refer to the second picture) the owner believes the door may be the original door to the house built in 1905 and that it’s probably made of Douglas fir. How should I proceed to make sure this problem does not reoccur?
