Personal Purse Inspection?

Has anyone else ever been told upon entering the store that their personal purse would need to be inspected when leaving after shopping?

I’m not talking about large tote bags, duffel bags, or reusable grocery bags I mean a regular small-to-medium personal purse. I recently had an experience at a Costco in Vancouver where an employee specifically told me at the entrance that I would need to open my purse for inspection when exiting the store.

What stood out to me was that I did not see other customers with similar personal purses being told the same thing, which made me feel singled out and uncomfortable.

I understand Costco has broad bag inspection policies, but I’m trying to understand whether this is something that is actually being routinely enforced on standard personal purses, or whether others have had similar experiences.

I would also like to note, that I was not asked to open my personal purse when exiting, they just looked inside my cart like they always do which makes being singled out upon entry for a leather purse that isn't even big enough to conceal Costco items especially odd.
