Hi everyone! Looking for support on how to handle my 8.5 month early waking whilst sleep training during the 3-2 nap transition 🫠
For background, she’s been a terrible sleeper since 3.5 months (somehow still surviving). We’ve tried sleep training multiple times with no success. I am no longer nursing - she used to have a terrible nurse to sleep association which is now gone thankfully. This is the first time sleep training her while she’s been on bottles and getting enough during the day, so I have high hopes.
We currently just got through night 2 - Ferber check ins - and she slept 6:20 pm - 12:20 am (longest stretch she’s done since 3.5 months). She fussed for about 50 mins and was down 1:10 am until 4:50 am when she was basically up for the day. I didn’t go in until 5:50 am.
Our girl has always woken up a the 10-10.5 hour mark after overnight sleep. Again, she’s always been a bad sleeper so take that time as you will, but consistently it’s been that way as far as how much she can do overnight.
Right now we’ve been on a 2.5/3.5/3.5 schedule so her bedtimes have been super early, hence the 4:50 am wake up at that 10.5 hour mark.
She gets about 2.5-3 hours of daytime sleep across the 2 naps. (She’s a great napper)
I know the 2.5 is on the low side but anytime I stretched it she went back to 30 min naps when she naps 1.5 hours after a 2.5 ww. I did save a nap yesterday after stretching which I’ll keep doing if that’s the answer.
I guess is my only option is to start stretching wake windows? I did stretch her morning window to 3 hours today because I simply could not put her down for her first nap before 8 am, but she was breaking down tired.
Will the early morning waking happen no matter what during the transition and I need to wait it out?
Clearly I need some advice. Thank you all!
