I just saw a video of Kelly in Parliament and she was telling a story of her life on the streets as a homeless addict living at the women's shelter in downtown Kitchener. She said that addicts are to have hope, and that the few from the top of the mountain is nice.
I remember one of the reasons she said she ran in the election was her sadness at seeing people using drugs while she walked through Victoria Park. Where was this recovery story then? Where was her personal experience?
Wouldn't a Conservative Government that's undercutting harm reduction and drastically changing the fundamental tenets of Waterloo Region addiction and safe use access pony such a story before the masses to have Kelly tell everyone it would be alright, don't use safely, just keep climbing that damn mountain.
I dunno, the whole speech made me feel sick. Maybe she's in recovery and if she is then congrats on your time, it's hard and from personal experience (CA member since 2006), I could understand why she wouldnt disclose until now..
But I don't trust the Conservative government in Canada as its stands and so it smelt fishy, and convenient. I'd hate if she were coopting something you wouldn't wish on an enemy to stay relevant after "refusing" to cross the floor. Which I doubt too.
