Hey Reddit, I’ll try to make this quick and short, I just need some advice. I’m really sorry if there is any grammar or spelling mistakes, English isn’t my strong subject lol.
I (F15) really want to go to Korea for an exchange year or anything like that. It’s been a big dream of mine since I was in year 6 (12yrs old).
My Dad agrees it’d be an amazing experience and wants me to do and has helped me look online for options. But my mum on the other hand does not accept it AT ALL.
I’ve begged her and even made her a
presentation last year on why she should let me go and that I’ll be okay. But she still won’t budge.
I asked her to think about and it’s been 2 years since then, and i mentioned it the other day, because my dad told me that if I still wanted to go, we really need to “lock in and start looking” considering I want to go next year in year 10 (I’ll be 16 yrs old). My dad said he’ll pay for it, and I said I’ll put some of my savings into it as I’ve been saving up for a year because when I turned 14, I instantly got a job to save up. When I mentioned it to my mum yesterday she completely lost it at me, said that I was selfish and didn’t care about my family for wanting to leave.

It’s not my intention to ‘leave’ my family, it’s just a MASSIVE dream I’ve had for a long time and really want to experience it.
I love their education system, I love their culture, I love kpop, k-dramas and just everything, I love Korea in general. I’ve never been there before, I’m just so drawn to it and (don’t judge me for this) it just feels like home.

Please help me out and be honest🫰

Would you let your 15 (turning 16) year old go to a different country for school?
