Tips on trying to make pixelart landscape look better

Hi!

I am trying to create pixelart parallax of landscape, and here is what I currently have. I feel like it doesnt look any good, and I am wondering if its because of my color choice, composition, perspective, saturation, general nature of the landscape or someting entierly else.

I am currently using the Journey palette: https://lospec.com/palette-list/journey

And I am also wondering: Should I save specific colors for background only, and specific for foreground / close objects? or should I just use same colors everywhere, but de-saturate colors in the far distance a bit?

Is my walk animation weird/bad?

I cant stop feeling like something is off with it. Is the legs too short? body acting weird? The feet?

And any place I can look at examples of skinny 16x16 character animations perhaps?

Why does my pixelart look bad?

I am trying to create a semi top/down look on my pixelart fishing boat in the ocean. But every time I try to draw the fishing boat it always looks, well, crappy.

What is wrong? My color balacing? Perspective? Sizing?

Also, any recommendations for learning skills that would improve this?
