hii everyone, my friend is gonna be enrolled in the BBA-JD double degree programme this year and she wants to get some honest insights from people who are in it / graduated / know friends in it.
a few things she’s curious about:
- rigor/ workload: how demanding is the program compared to a regular BBA or LLB? is it constant grind or manageable if you stay consistent? is there realistically time for uni clubs and social life?
+ what is the average gpa for this program?
prospects: what do grads typically end up doing? (corporate law, finance, consulting, something else?) + how hard is it for you to get to an international firm/ work abroad and is it hard to start your own business in hk?
exachange opportunities: can BBA-JD students still go on exchange? If yes, please elaborate on it :) and would love if u guys can share some partner school recommendations and the selectivity of it.
internships & side jobs: how easy/difficult is it to secure internships during the program, especially given the heavier workload (can you secure it in y1)? do students in the program realistically have time for side jobs or freelancing to earn more pocket money?if yes, what kind of work do people usually do to gain a high income and for non-cantonese speakers, how do you even find clients or opportunities?
during the holidays before uni starts, what would you recommend for me to prepare? including but not limited to, useful courses i should learn ahead or skills that actually make a difference in Year 1 + things you wish you had done earlier?
language: do most international students who tend to work in hk (any field within business and law) end up learning Cantonese? if yes, how do they usually go about it (formal classes or self-study)? is it realistic to reach a working level during the degree and how many hours do i need to put it to be proficient?
would really appreciate any candid experiences, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
thanks a lott!!
