Car keys start the engine, but will not lock/unlock doors 07 Honda Accord
Hi, we have a 2007 Honda Accord EX 2 Door. The key starts the engine just fine, but does not lock or unlock the door or trunk. When the buttons are pressed, it makes a sound as though the doors are locking or unlocking, but they do not actually move. This is for both doors and the trunk.
Inside the car, when the door lock buttons are pressed (the ones located on the interior door itself) do not work. Well, the passenger one works sometimes.
When the key is stuck into the cylinder (or whatever the door keyhole is called), it does not go in all the way and does not turn. So cannot lock or unlock it that way.
I called a locksmith down and explaixed to him what was ocurring. He made a copy and it still did not work. He told me this AFTER it was done and had to pay him $150, but that's not important right now, just annoying because the whole point was that I needed a key to unlock/lock the doors! I digress.
So, not I do not know what to do. This used to be a relatives car and when he first gave it to us, the key did work, but quickly went out. At first it would work sometimes and we'd even have to crawl through the trunk to unlock. But, now it doesn't work to unlock anything.
I was told to spray the key hold with WD40 or some type of magenesum spray or something. But, that does not solve the problem of the buttons now working. We do not mind having to unlock or lock it using the key hole. We just want it to be locked!
I know it's long, but I wanted to be as detailed as possible.
Before I go to the mechanic, does anyone have any idea what may be the issue and any costs?
Thanks!
