Truly a dumb post

New to NYC and the US, from the UK where subletting isn’t a thing.

When you sublet, do people keep their furniture in the apartment? Do people take everything out or leave some stuff in? This is so dumb but I’m confused how it works.

I will likely need to find a sublet for 2 months (September & October) and don’t really know where to start. How do I go about finding a short term rental?

What would your route be? We want to stay coastal, have already accepted we’re not going to have time to squeeze in Yosemite as much as we want to, but are planning on Montana/Wyoming next year for some big sky & mountain.
