Hi everyone. I’m a newly hired staff nurse in a private hospital in the Philippines and need advice.
Our signed job offer included:
- Daily rate for 8 hrs
- Meal/duty allowance
- Scarcity pay for 100 hrs/month
- Signing bonus after 4 months
After we started working, HR released a memo stating:
- Scarcity pay removed for our batch
- Signing bonus changed from 4 months to 1 year
We did not sign any new agreement for these changes.
We already submitted a formal letter to HR regarding our concerns, but two payroll cut-off has passed and there is still no update.
We also signed a 2-year training bond worth ₱70,000, but the “training” was only around 2 weeks of in-house lectures (drug computations, medication administration, hospital policies, supervised floor exposure). No certification or external training was provided.
Now some of us want to resign, but management says we need to pay ₱70,000 if we leave before 2 years.
Questions:
- Can they still enforce the ₱70k bond if they changed benefits from our signed job offer?
- If I resign, can they require immediate payment?
- What usually happens if someone goes AWOL in this situation?
We have copies (picture) of our signed job offer, training agreement, memos, and formal complaint letter.
Would appreciate advice from anyone familiar with PH labor law or hospital bonds. Thank you.
