What can I do with an English / Literature degree over here?
I'm about to apply into Uog (recently graduated HS) and my plan was to become an English teacher, mainly because english is my only confident and go-to skill and also because I can't really think of anything else realistic that I could go for. My dream is to become a novelist, but to me that would be more of a side hobby then an actual career. So teaching is my best bet.
But I recently learned from a relative that in order to get my teaching degree I should just major education instead.
So that got me wondering, if I just go with being an english / literature major instead what are my options over here?
EDIT:
Im planning on teaching English / Literature on island. If I can, I'd maybe also like to teach creative writing on the side.
But after looking at some advice and the Uog courses I think I'm even more indecisive. It boils down to me thinking "oh, what if I miss one thing and now I've just wasted my time, which advice should I follow".
Apparently my AP Literature teacher only had an English degree (he was originally going for journalism) and somehow is teaching AP Lit, but my cousin is telling to primarily major Education, so the contradictions are confusing me a little.
Also,
So far I've taken interest in:
Literature
Linguistics / ESL (relative told me to take this one specifically)
English for Education (might do this one but with all the advice im hearing idk if this works since nobodys really brought it up)
Secondary Education (am aware I might need to major in this as well)
English & Writing (heard I need to minor in these two)
Digital Cinema, Media, & Journalism (sounds interesting to me but idk what I can even do with that degree)
I just wanna know, what are my options on island from my interests above? What can I take if I'm still going for teaching? Overall, I just dont want to sign up for anything that's not going to be essential, I'm just the type of person that wants everything pre-planned.
