4th and 5th metatarsal bone stress reaction recovery
I had 4th and 5th metatarsal bone stress reactions and have been suffering 7 long months. Long story short i started with one and got bad/no advice. I eventually got put in front of a brilliant sports doctor who diagnosed REDs and ive now had 7 consecutive cycles ans am eating well. I was put on non weightbearing (again) for 8 weeks and was given a return to weightbearing schedule. I also got an MRI which showed they were healing and I had some bursitis. Im 3 weeks out of my return to WB and started WB in trainers inside last week. I started some swimming too and some WB physio like standing on one leg for 10 seconds, squats onto a chair (my back is awful from all of this). But I still have pain in my foot. I assume it may be from lack of muscle /fat pad and everything waking up and strengthening rather than the bone but im terrified of making it bad again. My steps havent gone up and its not like ive been stupid on it. I stopped the WB physio and have gone back to using my crutches for support. Has anyone else struggled with weightbesring again from a metatarsal injury? When did it stop hurting? Im meant to increase steps in just under a week and I can't see this happening with me feeling the pain I have. And yes I started foot exercises a while back to help strengthen the foot again.
