Terrible Treatment In The Emergency Room

Hi everyone.(TLDR at end)

I'm 17M in California.

Recently, i was transported to a children's hospital with a diagnosis of Rhabdomyolysis. For those who don't know what that is, basically (in my case at least) i got extremely violent, seizure-like, involuntary muscle spasms. That caused so much pain i passed out many many times. This happened for about 4 hours continuously, every 3 minutes or so.

Basically, i get there alone parents are behind. The nurse asks if i want my mom in the room yet, I tell the nurse at first i'm not ready for family yet. 5 minutes go by, i start saying i want my mom in the room. The nurses said ok and kept saying they'd go get her. Nobody ever did. For 4 hours i asked and begged for my family and nobody ever even walked out into the emergency room to update them on my condition, let alone bring them to me. It got to the point i had to write a note in between muscle spasms that just said "i love you mom" because nobody would tell me where my parents were or why they couldn't come to me. Meanwhile, the nurses kept telling my family i didnt want to see them.

During the muscle spasms, my legs would violently shake involuntarily along with my arms. About 10 minutes in, 3 ARMED private security guards enter the room and pin my legs down to the table. Now anyone who has ever had a cramp knows that pinning the muscle down makes it hurt more. I was screaming in more pain, the security guard were pinning me to the table while my muscles were spasming, it made the pain easily 10x worse. Mind you, i was not combative at all, and am 17 years old. All 3 of these guard have handguns and are 4x my size.

I tell the security guard to leave and tell the nurses i need them out because i have PTSD/ bad experiences with them. They agree.

3 minutes later, i yell "fuck it hurts" and a guard walks int the room slams my legs (which are spasming so bad they are raised) into the end of the hospital table and firmly tells me to calm down.

I was forgetting where i was, and exclaiming for my family. My cries went unanswered, and for roughly over an hour i was pinned and terrified by armed security guards. They were acting as if i was attacking people when in reality i had no control over my muscles and everyone in the room knew that.

My family and i are pissed. It made the pain 10x worse to the point i asked the nurse to either "knock me out or just let me die". My family thought i didn't want them, and had no updated for hours. I was forced through more unbearable pain, terrified because i was waking up forgetting where i was and the first thing i see is 3 men with guns pinning me down telling me to calm down.

What do we do? How can we make this right? I'm pretty much traumatized from this and so is my family. I nearly died in the ER and nobody told my family how i was and they told me my family was nowhere to be found.

TLDR: I’m a 17-year-old who was hospitalized with severe rhabdomyolysis causing nonstop involuntary muscle spasms. While begging to see my parents, hospital staff kept them away for hours and falsely told them I didn’t want visitors. Armed security guards pinned me down during the spasms even though I wasn’t combative, which made the pain far worse and left me terrified and traumatized. My family and I feel the hospital seriously mishandled the situation.
